Welcome to Zagreb!

Useful Information

Language:  Croatian

Population: 803,900 (as of January 1st 2018)

Currency/Exchange: The official currency in Croatia is Kuna (HRK). All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.  Exchange facilities are available at banks, post offices and exchange offices. Approximate exchange rates are:
1 EUR = 7.4 HRK
1 USD = 6.5 HRK
1 GBP = 8.3 HRK

Please note that you will not be able to pay for drinks (if needed) within the Conference venue by credit card; you must pay cash in local currency.  You can withdraw cash from several ATMs located nearby (please check the exact location at the Information Desk).

Weather: Mid-July is usually the warmest time of year in Croatia/Zagreb,  and temperature highs are regularly around 30° C/86° F. However, it might rain occasionally, and thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening are a likely possibility. Weather Forecast Zagreb: http://meteo.hr/index_en.php

Emergencies: Dial 192 if you need Police and 194 for Emergency medical help.

Tipping in Croatia: If satisfied with service in a restaurant, leave a tip of up to 10%. In bars & cafes you might just round up the bill and tell them to keep the change.

Electricity: Electrical supply is 230V, 50Hz. Croatia uses the standard European (with two round prongs) plugs. Consider bringing your own power plug adapter.

Smoking policy: Smoking is not permitted inside of the conference building. In some bars, smoking is allowed, but not in restaurants.

Water: In Zagreb, and in Croatia in general, water quality is high and it is safe to drink tap water.

Arriving at Zagreb Airport

Zagreb airport is 15 km away from the city centre. There are different options available for reaching the city centre.

Taxis:

The taxi drive to the city centre will cost you 100 -120 HRK (i.e. around 15 EUR, but it’s best to check with the driver or order a ride in advance).

Airport Shuttle:

A one-way ticket on the Airport Transport Company bus costs 30 Kuna (i.e. around 4 EUR). The Shuttle operates between the Airport and the Zagreb Central Bus Terminal and the service is organised so that it follows the airport timetable.

After getting to the Central Bus Terminal, you can catch a tram. The tram station is right in front of the Central Bus Terminal.

Local Bus Line:

You can also take public bus line no. 290. The line has more than 15 stops, so be prepared for at least 30 minutes drive. However, this is the cheapest option and you can buy a 60-minute ticket from the driver for 10 Kuna (approx. 1.4 EUR). Please prepare local currency, Kuna. This bus will take you to Kvaternikov trg (the last stop). There, you can take a tram to your reserved accommodation.

Getting Around

The public transport services (buses and trams) in Zagreb are carried out by ZET (public bus company). Ten tram tickets are included in the conference fee and you will receive them at the conference registration desk. One ticket is valid for 30 minutes– that’s more than enough time for you to reach the Conference venue from the city centre. If you need more tickets you can buy them from the driver (in the vehicle, this will cost you more) or at a newsstand (a cheaper option). You must validate your paper ticket on the tram: there are machines for validating tickets installed near the first door of the vehicle (in low floor trams, they are also installed at the rear door). Getting to the Conference Venue

The venue for the conference is the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Zagreb.  Location details, a map and information about how to get there by tram is available here.

Building plan:

Most of the conference sessions will take place in rooms located in the eastern part of the Central Building. The main entrance to the faculty building is at the WEST of the Central Building, but you can also enter at the EAST entrances, and via the NORTH side of the building.

  2. Full-day excursion to the Zagorje region (€ 50.00), Monday 15th July, including Krapina Neanderthal Museum, Kumrovec, and medieval castle Veliki Tabor.
  3. Weekend excusion to Plitvice Lakes National Park – Saturday 20th – Sunday 21st July. Includes discounted transfers and accommodation.
