Discovering Utrecht

Welcome to Utrecht!

Utrecht is a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage and a welcoming, international atmosphere. The city is known for its beautiful Dutch architecture, charming canals and lovely parks. You can recognise Utrecht from afar by the Dom Tower, the tallest church spire in the Netherlands.

In the two main squares, Neude and Janskerkhof, you can sit on a sunny terrace and enjoy a borrel with popular Dutch snacks such as bitterballen. You can walk along the Oudegracht canal, where you can admire historic wharf cellars, the beautiful canal houses, and cosy cafes.

Utrecht has also several museums, including the Railway Museum (Spoorwegmuseum) that offers a journey through the history of trains, the Speelklok Museum which showcases a unique collection of musical clocks, the Central Museum that displays historical artifacts as well as contemporary works and the University Museum which offers exhibitions on science and natural history.

Cycling is one of the best ways to get around Utrecht. The city is designed for cyclists, with extensive bike lanes and convenient routes that make it easy to explore. Renting a bike is a great way to experience the city like a local. Find all you need to know about biking in Utrecht here!

The conference venue is located in Utrecht Science Park. Nearby, you can explore the Botanical Garden, home to a diverse collection of plants and animals. Just a short walk from the conference building is Amelisweerd, the most visited green area in Utrecht. Here you can enjoy a walk in the forest, canoeing and eat in one of the nice restaurants surrounded by nature.

Situated in the heart of the Netherlands, Utrecht has the country’s largest railway station, making it easy to reach other major cities, such as Amsterdam (35 km), Leiden (50 km), Rotterdam (60km), The Hague (65km), and Delft (70km).
